Review on πŸ“· Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd 10.0 Megapixel Digital Camera - Black by Kristina Soucy

The best camera I've ever had.

I'm not a photographer to begin with. I was taking a course in college and the whole aperture, aperture, etc. just flew out of my head. I'm certainly a point and shoot type. Sometimes I can zoom in or out, but that's about it. This camera takes fantastic pictures and I don't need to know much. I leave most of my shots on the auto setting or the natural light setting (which disables the flash). The first thing I like about this camera is that I didn't notice as much shutter lag as with other cameras. The moment you photograph is very close to the moment you enter the picture. Second, the autofocus handles close-ups and zooms very well. With other cameras I've had, if you get too close or go past a certain zoom proximity, you forget to focus. Third, I also like what it can do in low light and natural light. I usually only use the flash for traditional portrait or group photography. Eventually, the panoramic shots turned out great (after figuring out how to align them properly. The bad shots I got were mostly due to user error). I can't say how it compares to other cameras as I've never tried panorama. Another thing I love about this camera that wasn't clear to me until recently is that it can use SD or XD cards, which is good if you already own one or the other of the other cameras. I found the custom menus easy to use, but maybe I'm not the most reliable person for this as I've gotten so used to them and may not remember what it was like to learn them. I think I figured it out pretty quickly. Just for reference, other cameras I've used: - Kodak Easy Share 6.1MP: not a bad camera, but 6.1MP is small these days and the camera is old - Olympus Stylus 770sw: not a bad camera and I like that sleek design, but the shutter lag was my biggest gripe with this camera. However, this is a waterproof digital camera, so that's the main way I use it. Finepix is better for the above reasons. - GE x500(?) 16MP: Not sure about the model but I bought it because it looks like a FinePix and I thought it might be one of those cases where the products are from different companies, the Manufacturer could be the same and the same, so I assumed the performance would be the same. Plus more mp. Not as much. Not a bad camera, but the zoom/close focus was poor and I've never gotten as good a shot as I did with the FinePix. Haven't figured out the menu yet. The Finepix s1000fd I buy from Revain is actually the second one I've bought. The first one I got used to from ebay worked great until I dropped it. twice. The first time was on a hard basement floor. The only damage it showed was that one of the pins holding the battery cover was broken. It didn't close completely, but the battery cover was still in contact and the camera still worked fine. Everything is fine with the screen, the lens did not move. The second time I dropped it the other pin broke off so now the camera won't hold up. I bought a GE as a replacement but it wasn't that good so I'm going back to FinePix. I post pictures I took with my camera. I'm not sure how many Revain will let me post, but I'll tag them with my username.
