I bought 4 of these to replace the spring hinges that came with the bar stools. The problem with spring-loaded ones is that when you stand up, the stool recoils and smacks you in the ass. Bar stools have less mass than a person tipping over, breaking themselves or the floor, and/or knocking out a pet. These unsprung swivels solve this problem. The ones I replaced had nuts welded on the back, so I had to buy nuts that were compatible with the existing (hex) bolts. I have the ones with nylon inserts so they don't come loose. Out of the 4 swivels I bought, only one works completely smoothly no matter how you sit on the bar stool. The other three make a crunching noise and are harder to turn, especially if you're not sitting right in the center of a bar stool. I've looked at all the pivots and can't see any broken bearings, but one of them left a greasy metallic residue under the seat as if the broken bearing had been crushed and spat out. I would give these more stars if they were stronger.
