This oil and wax kit was used to finish a new Boos cutting board (American Cherry R18) with a round Clark pad. The oil settles on the pads as expected, so no wonder. The oil penetrates the wood fibers quickly and is completely absorbed in 20-30 minutes (both ends of the board and along the perimeter absorb oil at about the same rate). 10 generous applications before the oil stops absorbing. Yes, the first treatment lasted several hours, which is more than double the number of applications indicated in the instructions. For the last few uses, I've used my fingers directly on the oil to "gently" push the oil into the wood fibers for extra depth of absorption as the pad felt too soft for that. The next day I applied a coat of wax with Clark's Pad and let it dry for another day - and then he looked and felt ready for some action. Observations - The color of the panel darkened from a light to medium cherry wood tone to a medium to darker (honey?) shade set - I personally prefer the darker, richer oil and wax finish. Over the past few weeks I've cut, sliced, and baked countless times right on the board with no scars, dents, or even visible on the wood. any wear and tear - it just looks great, which is a good thing as it stays on the island ready for use. Also, there is no odor, oily feel or anything else that would lead anyone to believe the board has been treated. I would definitely buy it again as there is no smell and water doesn't affect this (like some homemade oils or non-edible prepared oils). Also, for me, the time it takes to make homemade oil without wax just isn't efficient. I estimate that at the rate listed on the bottle (not the rate I used for this initial treatment) the oil will last a year, maybe around 2. !) Advice. Place each pad in an individual zippered sandwich bag (with paper labeled "oil" or "wax" for easy identification) and fit the entire set of oil and wax bottles in a gallon zippered pouch for very easy storage. .
