My husky mix is exactly 40 pounds so I took a size 18 and it fits me perfectly. around the neck (which can happen if you wear a little too long, but it doesn't affect the fit at all) I expect it to return to its snug shape around the neck when washed. (Originally it was worn around the neck, like a turtleneck) Although it could be more comfortable with a looser fit. She seems happy enough. The fabric is plush and breathable! The chenille is really good quality. It's better than some of the sweaters I have! Super impressed with this purchase. I will be buying more in multiple colors. Update almost a year later: yes, if you wash the sweater it goes back to its original turtleneck shape. It will not begin to stretch until repeatedly (3+ days) of non-stop wear. But until then the sweater has to be washed anyway! love this product! I bought these in 3 different colors and every time our dog wears them he gets tons of compliments from neighbors who pass by our corner lot! Buy it, you won't regret it!
