Review on ๐ŸŽง Experience Superior Sound Quality with Master & Dynamic MH40 Over-Ear Headphones - Noise Isolating Studio Headphones with Mic for Recording by Kari Reynolds

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Beautiful, well built but far from perfect

First off, these 50/50 headphones seem to make you happy all round. "What the hell does that mean?" you ask; let me explain. Some people, like me, will regret and regret sending these headphones back to Revain. I suspect that others, perhaps like you, will find my complaints really inappropriate and they really like these headphones. With that said, let's begin the review. From the moment I saw them online I wanted to love these headphones. I mean, I've scoured the internet for every video, I've searched Instagram for photos; I wanted them to be big. And the first impression of her arrival was amazing. When other reviews talk about how wonderfully made they aren't lying. These are probably the most impressive cans I've ever seen; The aluminum is reminiscent of the Apple MacBook, the leather looks nice (I bought the brown/silver version) and there's absolutely no squeaking like some of my headphones. Even the adjustment rods can put a smile on your face as they work so smoothly. So yes, these things look and feel impressive and I can't fault them for their craftsmanship at all. The only area they skimped on was the included cables. I've seen videos of the original MH40 generation and these cables looked fantastic with metal sleeves. They're tiny pieces of plastic, nothing spectacular. I suspect this is due to a significant drop in price, so that's not really a criticism. And it's pretty easy to swap out the cables for whatever 3.5mm cable you want to use instead. They block out quite a bit of external noise and the sound is pretty damn good for such trendy headphones. Not the analytical sounding headphones I own, but they sound good, having good clarity across the board, with an emphasis on the low end. In fact, these banks are capable of accurately reproducing sub-bass frequencies that are almost inaudible to the human ear, but these things pump them out and flex the eardrums. The only real downside I noticed was a slight scratching in the right speaker, especially on loud bass and only at certain frequencies (I work on music production software and noticed this with a subwoofer synth). Contrary to my OCD related self, I was willing to ignore this minor issue as most of the time I don't turn on my music and it wasn't too bad for you. There were other problems that I could not overcome. Remember I talked about control rods? If your head is too big and mine is almost as big, then these just won't fit. I mean I had the wands all the way out and had to move them closer to the front of my head to get them to fit "properly". I say "right" because they still didn't feel great. I wear sizes 7 7/8 to 8 in fitted hats so plan accordingly. It really amazes me why they haven't added another inch to the bars. But let's move on to the next complaint. These things seal your ears. I don't mean that they "kinda" thicken up ambient noise, no: these things feel like a suction cup moving around your ears. This means (for me, my opinion) that you have a very strange feeling of pressure in both ears all the time. That's probably where the sub-bass capabilities come from, but oh my god. I'll confess that I'm much more sensitive to this feeling of pressure (I don't know why, I'm just sensitive), so it might not be that noticeable to you. . Again, switching to almost any other set of headphones after wearing the MH40 feels like a relief. The longest I've worn these mugs was about 2.5 hours at a time and after a few hours I felt like my ears were still recovering. That and the ear pads aren't really big. I don't have big ears, but it seemed to me that my ears touched the entire rim of the inside of the pads. Not the worst feeling in the world but that combined with the big head, poor fit and capped ears meant I've always played around with them to get more comfortable. Oh, and they're damn heavy. What I'm trying to say is that you will NOT forget that you are wearing this. God I think I really got my hands on these guys. It's a real shame because I feel like if my head were smaller and they didn't have this insane pressure on the ear canal I probably would keep them. That's why I gave them 3 (2.5) stars. It appears to be a complete coin toss. One of the most beautiful and high-quality headphones I have ever seen and used with a really good sound. To be honest I don't know if you'll like them or not which isn't the best way to end a review meant to help you make a decision. For me, the general uneasiness made me send them back. Because if I've learned one thing in all my years of trying, buying, and using headphones, they're not worth it if they don't fit you. However, I really hope they work for you and my goodness I hope the company thrives and stays successful. They really know how to assemble headphones. With some tweaking, this can be a killer headset. Anyway, I hope this has helped anyone who is having trouble making a decision.
