Review on 🌱 Blackwater Clear by Brightwell Aquatics - Premium Humic Substance for Optimal Growth in Freshwater Planted and Shrimp Aquariums by Kristin Bridges

Seems to work in our Betta tanks

Purchased to add tannins to our Betta breeding and rearing tanks and angelfish spawning grounds (they're still a bit young). Works well, the tannins should help prevent infection in baby bettas, and it's a concentrated source and faster than soaking flaked Indian almonds in a 10-gallon trash can filled with 50% well water and 50% city reverse osmosis water (our fountain) The water has a very high GH content (e.g. more than 100 drops of API GH solution, filling the tube completely with 5 ml will not turn it green, it will remain orange) and quite high in KH and 7.6 pH). used when changing the water. To achieve neutral pH and lower GH we had to use 50% reverse osmosis water and quite high tannin levels (which is quite annoying when using botanical leaves). Brightwell Aquatics will definitely help lower the pH for your fish/invertebrates that love acidic water or help you correct overly hard water with high pH for most fish that like neutral water. I personally don't mind a slight coloring of tannins, IDA leaves or Blackwater extract like this. Tetra sold a similar product when I was in high school over 30 years ago, but I haven't been able to find it since the early 1990's. Value for money proved cheaper than a smaller bottle of a similar product sold by Petco. Because we breed bettas and angelfish, we chose these.

Pros
  • Pet Supplies
Cons
  • Good mostly, but...
