The device is positioned by NIKON as a family device - the size is larger than soap dishes, but smaller than professional ones. The quality of the pictures is much better than on the "soap box" (the nickname stuck, apparently due to the characteristic blurry quality of the pictures :)). Do not rush to throw away the soap dish - when riding a bicycle, for example, the D3100 will still be heavy :(. But I personally already threw out the video camera (even when I bought a CANON IXUS 100 mini-camera with HD video). I advise you to immediately purchase a better lens. I bought the body myself (on the box it was written kit 18-55 VR, the company apparently removes the lenses itself and sells them for a couple ofcheaper) and the 18-105 VR lens with a stabilizer. I recommend it to everyone who does not have enough quality of shooting with soap dishes, as well as to those who once (like me) shot on ZENIT ET as the first digital SLR.
