Review on Wave-point Mirco Sun 6,500 k Daylight: 16-Watt LED Fixture for 12-Inch Aquarium Lighting by Pamela Beatty

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good, but lack of switches, incompatibility with dimmers, poor mounting options.

I can't yet tell how this light will affect the growth of my plants as I've just installed it (1.5 gallon DBP long) but it looks fantastic in the aquarium out. As others have said, the clamping mechanism isn't exactly perfect (it barely fits in my tank because it's nano and the finish is smaller). I think it's really designed for the rimless aquarium, which is more popular in saltwater. Hobby. The bonnet is fantastic and sleek and the headlights are bright and well placed. No moonlight setting or on/off switch, which is a shame, and it doesn't work with an external dimmer mechanism either. If I knew, I would probably look for an alternative. I have a hash timer, it's not as smooth as muted sunrise/sunset settings in the tanks around it. All in all a nice nanolight for the price and I have no doubt my plants will look great underneath. I just wish it had a bit more amenities so I gave it 4 stars. If you have a simple nano/pico borderless freshwater setup and don't care about slow dimming or running on a timer, then this light is for you. Definitely invest in some kind of mechanism to turn it on and off, although otherwise you'll have to unplug and plug it in manually, which sucks.

Pros
  • Slim aluminum hood with heat dissipation
Cons
  • So far so good
