Pairing with your MacBook Pro using an HDMI cable is very simple. But getting this supposedly 1080p monitor to not be grainy and have legible text wasn't easy. Looking through posts online and on the HP support site it seems that others are having the same issue. If you're connecting to a Mac, read a lot more than me so you don't end up with a useless 27-inch monitor.
