I took the smaller version for my 80 percent 3 year old and found it was almost too long so we returned it for the larger size. The zippers are strong so he can't pull them out of his pants/shorts, but they are stretchy enough that he can pull them out for potty training. The larger version is almost too long, but its adjustability allows him to wear it for as long as the elastic will last. (I'm assuming the gum will get old in a few years and before he outgrows it). A bow tie also works well for the tightest setting. I also recommended it to two of my friends for their children.
