Spring is spring... Wrong

I've been using them for years and always buy single/double packs (especially ones with slightly nipped side handles). Saw this one with a bundle for the same price and thought "a spring is a spring, right?" Nope! I can best describe the metal on them as rough and thick/tough. The coils of the spring don't separate well enough to even catch the hairs they slide over.
