Review on πŸ”‘ Premium Replacement Key Fob Cover Shell for Toyota Prius Keyless Entry - Compatible with 2004-2009 Models by Anthony Mayes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A near perfect transfer case for the Prius Gen2 key fob. However, keep a close eye on the online video.

My Prius is 17 years old, works well but parts wear out. The only major "fix" involved a new main hybrid battery; The dealer variant cost about $3,000 - more than the book value of a car of that age. Luckily, a hybrid battery repairer will replace mine at home in less than 25 minutes for $1,100. The flexible plastic over the key fob's buttons is worn out. A dealer replacement, which would mean programming a new key fob for a specific Prius, would cost $300. This DIY option is less than 5% smaller BUT you need to have good eyesight, small screwdrivers and most importantly don't damage the trapezoidal chip/magnet. In my case, the 2 x 4mm "chip" appeared to be fused/glued to the plastic; The video showed that it was easy to just pick it up. So I have to use a Dremel mini cutting wheel to very carefully cut the chip out of the old key fob and then sand off the plastic debris stuck to it. It's so small I could use a vise, so I used double sided tape to attach the chip to a flat surface. If you are NOT a skilled person, don't have such precise instruments and can work at close range, you may not get a transplant. The new case is just the right size, but it "feels" lighter than the original.
