Nice colors. Great zoom. Quiet and smooth zoom operation. Good viewfinder with diopters. Lots of features. Decent low light performance. Improved video performance. Images are sharp and clear up to 400 ISO. After that, a characteristic sound can be seen. stereo sound. Uses 4 AA batteries instead of 2, thank goodness. Too many buttons in places where they are accidentally pressed too often and too lightly. It's easy to block the autofocus beam with your finger. The auto focus was unstable. Especially indoors or in low light. I had blurry photos that didn't exist or shouldn't exist before. I'm not a professional, but I take photos a lot. Some of them were published by the college where I work. I like the camera, but the inconsistent autofocus bothers me. My Powershot A710is is more stable in autofocus. There are also inconsistencies when downloading images to a computer running Canon software and connecting the camera/computer with the supplied cable. Sometimes images load normally, sometimes the process freezes. I've found that using a card reader works best for me. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software but no change. In general this is a good camera. For me, focus lock and patience are a must. It just doesn't focus quickly/easily every time indoors or in low light. (as before) UPDATE 11/09 Had to send this camera back to Canon for repair. I started getting the message "Lens Error Restart Camera". Canon fixed it and sent it back to me quickly as it was under warranty. So far I'm not impressed. Everywhere I look this camera gets rave reviews. I think I'm just unlucky. I won't buy another Superzoom anymore. I take the DSLR first. If I'm going to invest, I'll just invest more in a better camera. It's a real shame because when the camera is right it's amazing. My hope is that since Canon brought it back to the repair shop, Canon may have found some problems caused at the factory and now this camera is on the right track. I like the functions very much. I also found that mov files are not compatible with Windows Vista. I had to buy third party software to convert mov files to avi, mpeg or wmv if I wanted to make movies. Hope. UPDATE 12/7/2009 Just got back from Walt Disney World. I have used this camera many times for photos and videos. As long as there is a lot of light, photos and videos are very clear. The auto focus was very good. Especially in low light, the autofocus stumbled very often. In low light, I get better results with my A710is. It just wasn't a good night camera for me. I tried 1600 ISO but the noise was just awful. Forget the 3200. I don't know why Canon even bothered to put it there. For my shots, I used the "light color" outdoor setting. I love it. The colors were strong, which I personally like. I also recorded outdoor videos in "bright" mode. They looked better to me too. The colors have become richer. I still have 3 stars for this camera. For the money I paid for it, I expect better autofocus performance. I understand that this is a glorified point and shoot with many features and those features are useful. I felt the point-and-shoot goal was simplicity, rather than constantly fiddling with manual settings for almost every low-light shot. Any camera can take decent daytime shots (provided the user sets the camera to the best settings). The autofocus system on a camera at this price point should perform better than this in harsher lighting conditions. Just my opinion. I still like this camera for the huge zoom, but I think the huge zoom is a bug in point-and-shoot at the moment. I think (suspicion) that the huge zoom is at the root of all the autofocus issues I'm having with this camera. Too much glass for the picture. This lens is good for point-and-shoot photography, but it is not a lens for SLR cameras. If you're going to be shooting most of your photos and/or video in good light, then this is a great camera for people. Your photos and videos will make you very happy. Images are clear and sharp. The videos are pretty good too. The MOV format camera zooms significantly when recording video. You can brighten the video during recording if needed. Expect only mediocre lighting issues. My next camera will be a DSLR.
