This Coco CR-580 ring is perfect for my Canon 580 EX II. I can't say if it works that well like Ray Flash, but for my purposes (macro photography) it definitely works very well - and at a fraction of the cost of Ray Flash ($40.00). The seams are sealed, the light is not visible. The one I received does not bear the CoCo trademark. It fits in my photo backpack. Seeing the possibility of macro photography makes it quick and easy to hook up to my flash. The flash head snaps directly into the CoCo for a tight and secure fit. The CoCo comes with a rubber wedge (for smaller torches?) and has a dial at the top to control some sort of vise mechanism. I am not allowed to use the rubber wedge and dial; The 580 EX II fits perfectly as it is. I tried using this ring flash with a rubber wedge and a vice for a smaller universal flash but ran into a problem. In my example, the vise compresses the flash when I turn the dial, but only to a certain point, after which the moving jaw is removed and the vise loses its grip (a ratcheting noise is heard). As this flash is only advertised as compatible with the 580 EX II I will not penalize it. Build quality is decent. Definitely not great. The plastic looks and feels a bit cheap. While the CoCo doesn't have the best build quality, it feels pretty solid. And as far as functionality goes, it definitely delivers. 4 stars.
