Review on 🧦 Optimized Nylon Gaiter by Liberty Mountain by Tim Airy

Big gaiter. - Camping

This is a very well made product. I don't have much experience with spats, but I expect them to work that way. First the materials. The nylon used is of very good quality, it seems quite durable. The elastic at the bottom and in the middle of the lower leg is very durable. When you put them on they fit snugly around the boot and snugly around the shin so that the center is snug against the leg but not so that you can feel it through the pant leg. I wear size 9 boots, but they should fit larger sizes (this is for winter hiking boots, not bulky winter boots with removable liners, I don't think they will fit). The zipper isn't the best I've seen, but it looks and feels more than secure enough. Attaches easily and smoothly. I wore them around the house for a bit when I first got them and finally got a chance to test them out this weekend. I rode 5 miles through the woods with about 8 inches of snow. My boots and feet were dry. Everything covered by the gaiter, including the laces, looked like I'd never left the house. The bone is dry! They didn't slide or move in any way. I never adjusted them and they were exactly the same as when I first put them on. I made 2 changes to this product before testing it. First I got a strap to fit under the boot where I wanted it, then I tied it, trimmed the excess thread, melted the end and hand sewed the loose ends to the strap to keep the knots from unraveling. I can then just slip it on without having to re-tie it every time and not have to worry about it coming loose while hiking and then fumbling with wet, frozen cords. I also replaced the laces at the top of the gaiters with laces. The string it came with was pretty slick so I think it will easily come undone and if you've ever tried tying a bow behind your knee you'll see it's a total pain. The lace I changed it to is a material that you can tie in a neat loop that doesn't dangle, and it's also long enough to wrap around the front of your leg and tie there. To replace this I simply attached the end of the laces to the end of the factory rope and pulled through. Simple and efficient. With these gaiters I had neither snow nor wetness in my boots and my socks and feet were absolutely dry and warm. At $19 these things are a very expensive product. I'm sure there are better socks out there but these are great. They seem to last a long time and I can't think of a single aspect of performance that was lacking. I highly recommend this product.
