Not as expected. Sewing
Appears to be waxy. Doesn't look like chalk. Rather fat. I didn't try to wash the fabric where I put the tip of the pencil. I hope no traces remain. I'll continue testing on a sewing project that doesn't matter - something I'm happy to throw away when needed.
