I bought this camera to monitor my boat at the dock. The other reviews do a great job of highlighting the pros and cons so I will list the specific points that made this product 4 stars (instead of 5 stars) for me. I already knew that this camera would not be able to record 24 hours a day, 7 days a week due to battery/power limitations so this would not be factored into my review. My setup is as follows: installed on a building UNDER a cover (not exposed to the elements), connected to a Reolink solar panel. I use a T-Mobile $10 prepaid SIM card in Texas. Complaint #1: Motion detection recording lag. This camera aims to use as little power as possible, so it uses a PIR sensor (which detects body heat) to trigger the recording. While this works well, I've found that the recording starts a bit late at times. I've been working on finding the right balance of IR sensor sensitivity to eliminate false alarms and start recording times. As for the IR sensor, there is no way to define motion detection areas, so you need to make sure your camera is in those areas. so that when moving branches/cars/etc. When I get an alert and immediately try to connect to the camera, it usually takes 4 or 5 attempts to connect and watch the video. When I try to connect at random times it usually takes 1 or 2 attempts. I have a feeling that if there are any alarm issues, the connection is due to the camera being uploaded to the cloud. I had a time or two where I couldn't connect for more than 15 minutes (which made me nervous that someone might have stolen the camera), but eventually I was able to connect. If you watch previous videos straight from the camera, it may take some time. while the app's UI is being updated with no progress/"please wait" information. For example, if I go to a video from the past and try to select previous months, it can take up to a minute for the calendar to be available. Nothing in the UI indicates that the app is asking the camera for any info (and actually says "No video that day". When I try to play the video, I may have to try playing the video multiple times. . I can can't be sure if it's a camera or network issue but I haven't had these issues with any of my other T-Mobile devices when they're in the same area as the camera had to try dozens of times to recover deleted video files from the camera - it went up to 15% and then it said "upload failed" Which leads to my next complaint: Complaint #3: Cloud video is heavily compressed on Reolink Cloud This is not mentioned anywhere in the literature that I can find 10 80p at 15 fps on your device If you need to save the video for any reason, make sure to download the video from the device itself after you enter the playback mode s set to Delete. Other minor issues (doesn't affect my star rating): - A 120 degree wide angle lens is sufficient, but it would be nice to have a higher angle option. The built-in speaker is barely audible from a few meters away (for voice communication). Siren works decent enough to draw attention. The video I'm uploading contains examples of various events captured on camera with sound quality samples. Unfortunately, due to a problem in #2, you cannot see the video in full quality. That being said, I will probably buy this camera again in the future.
