We have a Nectar King Size Memory Foam Mattress that is 10 inches thick. After putting the mattress in and removing the air with a vacuum, we reduced its thickness to 3 inches. During the vacuum process, my kids and I expelled as much air as we could to help it out. I used a small shop vacuum and the process of reducing the thickness to 3 inches took about half an hour. I don't think I could make more of it. Rolling the mattress afterwards is difficult, but with help you can do it. Note: get your own straps, the free ones suck a bit but they'll get you close enough. After everything was rolled up I used duct tape to keep everything rolled up. I hope this works because he climbs onto the car roof and heads off to a new place. In general I am very satisfied with the purchase. I did it the first time for the thickness because it took a really long time to deflate to get to 70% while the packaging says it will decrease by 80%.
