Bought a new bike this year. I wanted to be motivated to go to work more. Bought a new gasket for my old helmet, everything was fine. The young man who works for me rides his bike to work every day. He told me to change my helmet every 5 years or so. Makes sense and I decided to try something other than my Giro. I have had two Giro helmets before, this is the last in 11 years. I will keep it as a backup. Knowing nothing about new helmets and seeing that there are many options, I chose this one for a number of reasons. A name. I know the Smith, they're a little pricey, but I decided to give it a try. I don't need an insanely expensive helmet and I know you get what you pay for when you buy a cheap helmet. MIPS, I've never heard of it, but when they say it's safer, it's an added measure of well-being to know it will protect me from injury in the event of an accident. I grew up riding without a helmet in the 80's and 90's until I bought a good mountain bike. So for me anything is better than nothing. The 11 year old Giro I have still looks good and is kept indoors. I know the material can be fragile, but then again, anything is better than nothing. i like black I bought some red reflective stickers to put on for better looks and functionality. The padding is good, the instep adjuster is comfortable. I love the click of the wheel that allows you to adjust the fit a bit. When it's cold in the morning I wear a hat that I have to adjust, and it's easy to adjust back on for lunch or on the afternoon walk home. Adjusting the chin is also easy. The visor is easy to put on and take off. I usually took the visor off because it didn't hold up very well during my Giro. I left it until now, it was fine and well in place. Overall this is a great helmet so far. I have never had a serious accident with any of my helmets and this will be the 3rd helmet I have in 17 years of motorcycling. For the past three weeks, I've been commuting to work three to four days a week. I only changed the pads compared to the Giro, this one feels just as comfortable. The only thing that's really different is the adjuster to tighten it on your head. Oh and I guessed the size, I bought the medium and it fits perfectly. Most of the Giro helmets I looked at were one-size-fits-all. Like I said, you get what you pay for. If you're serious about safety then the extra few bucks for a good helmet is worth it. But like I said, anything is better than nothing. I am surprised that I survived my childhood without a helmet and was involved in many accidents and accidents. It's about $20 more expensive than the Giro I was looking at, and you can get a better fit with more specific measurements. It's as light as my old Giro. All really cheap helmets had a light on the back in my opinion which meant they had a battery in there which made them heavier in my opinion. Overall I like this helmet so far. Let's see how long this lasts. The instruction manual says that the three-year replacement seems short. But they should also try to make money. Have fun hunting with helmets.
