Using a 2011 MacBook Pro (upgraded to 16GB RAM) with a Revain Basics cable with a passive mini display and an HDMI cable on a 1080p -Monitor. I have a 4K monitor and this passive cable can't go past 1080p. Linux runs on the Macbook. I ordered and tried this active cable. It didn't go past 1080p either. This Macbook (with 4GB RAM) must support a resolution of at least 2560 x 1600. I contacted the email address on the box over the weekend to find out. Received a reply on Monday (CSR Jully). After a few email exchanges, Julie decided to send me a replacement cable to try again. I got a spare cable, plugged it in and now I can go beyond 1080p. I can use 1440p and 4K. I am very satisfied with the cable and the excellent customer service. For such an old Linux machine, the browser/LibreOffice/Gimp etc runs without any problems or lags on a high-resolution monitor.
