I bought them to have white plates for a large family without having another set of dishes and without spending a lot of money. In my opinion they are cheap enough to throw away after one use. However, after a family dinner I had plenty of food left over and used it as utensils on the patio for al fresco dining. I put them on the bottom shelf of the dishwasher because I know I don't care if they don't die. Many of them have so far withstood repeated use and repeated washing in the dishwasher. We serve them hot food and use sharp knives - no problem. Sometimes one of them breaks in the dishwasher but for the money they are very durable.
