Anyone who drives a Jeep Wrangler will tell you that a lightning bug puts out more light than standard headlights, so the bar for improvement is pretty low. However, these headlights exceeded all my expectations. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and I'm very happy with it. Installation is as simple as removing old Halogens and installing new Grotes. Grotes comes with an adapter if you need to adjust the wiring, but it's not needed on the 2004 Wrangler. However, I have lengthened the factory wiring harness with this adapter, but you don't need it if you open the hood and connect it from behind. After installation, I adjusted the headlights and looked forward to the onset of darkness. The difference between regular halogens and these is very different. Caves emit white light (not blue or a blue-lined variant) and cast light onto the road. There's a fairly large "hot spot" in the beam pattern that illuminates the path ahead of the Jeep, and the rest of the beam is wide enough to illuminate my lane, oncoming lanes, and the nearby ditch. The beam break is obvious, but not so abrupt as to be distracting. In addition, when adjusted correctly, the headlights do not dazzle oncoming vehicles or vehicles in front of me. The light pattern has a slight upward projection to illuminate traffic signs and road signs, but is not aimed at oncoming traffic. The high beam is strong enough to look into next week. When switching to high beam, the low beam stays on and the high beam comes on, but only slightly higher. These things are bright and the pattern is well formed and directed. Driving in the wilderness at night is now fun. The lanes are visible when it rains, traffic signs are visible long before the traffic and for a change I can be seen in traffic. The worst part of the whole process is the headlight adjustment. Jeep thought it would be a good idea to use small T15 Torx screws on the adjusters. it is not. Get a good set of Torx screwdrivers and try not to rip off the heads on the adjusters - blame Jeep for that. However, take the time to adjust your headlights to take full advantage of the beam without dazzling cars or planes. Remember the last time you adjusted your sealed halogens for the low beams, turned on the highs, and then played the game of dividing the difference between low and high hoping to find something good in the middle before you give up? Not with Grotes - set the low beam and set it right and the high beam is where it should be, as it should be. The price is steep when compared to unnecessary halogen sealed bars; However, remember that they are well designed to project light where it should, making you visible and making others visible to you. Are they worth their price? Absolutely. I would get them again.
