Review on Olympus SP 550UZ Digital Stabilized Optical by Brian Campbell

Very happy with digital cameras

I bought this camera hoping to learn more about photography than just point and shoot. This allows me to control it manually by changing the aperture and shutter speed, as well as manually focus it. She also shoots in RAW, which was another plus for me. It has a BULB function, but unfortunately I didn't find any setting to set the BULB timer. So it looks like you have to press the shutter button for the required amount of time. I buy a remote control so I can use this function without shaking the camera. I wish the instructions that came with it were more detailed. Overall I am very happy with this camera. This gives me the opportunity to learn how to take photos, as well as having automatic settings if I can't take a picture myself. For me it was a smart purchase. (I made so many recordings that I had to buy a 500GB external hard drive because my laptop didn't fit) :) And as for the batteries. I'm a big fan of cameras that run on AA batteries (like this one). I always carry a few sets of rechargeable batteries with me, but it's nice to know that if they run out I can quickly stop by the local shop and start shooting again. I only use the LCD for night shots and mostly use the viewfinder. So I have no complaints about the battery life (and I shoot in RAW format all the time, which takes more energy to write to memory). If you are looking for a camera that will teach you more about photography than just aiming and shooting, I would recommend trying the SP-550UZ.

Pros
  • 7.1 megapixels
Cons
  • Not bad but...
