Review on Modway EEI 271 WHI Lippa Mid Century Modern Furniture by Nicole Thompson

I hate buying furniture online

I've had nightmare stories of non-returns, shipping problems etc. So let me start right off, THIS PART IS AWESOME. It was exactly what I wanted and the quality exceeded expectations. I hope I was able to help with further advice on delivery and assembly. First this product came cash on delivery. The total weight of the item is 244 lbs. Without packaging. This last part is important. The part comes unassembled on a wooden pallet and the crates are framed with wood, which greatly increases the size and weight of the package. The shipping company called and asked if I would like to order white gloves. WARNING: This company's white glove is to take the parts in the elevator to the 4th floor, take them to the apartment, remove the packaging and discard BUT NOT ASSEMBLE THE UNIT, for a whopping $150. Since we had a handcart and my sons could help, we canceled the service. A unit arrived and the movers brought it on a pallet. I looked at the size of the pallet and said they should have told us - these pallets don't fit in elevators. I reluctantly let them take the pallet and leave the boxes. Again, the block and base add up to 240 pounds. The base is probably only about 40 pounds. Therefore, keep in mind that the countertop is large, heavy and uncomfortable. ** If you are dealing with stairs or elevators and do not have help, use the services of white gloves. ** You will still face the problem of assembling the device, but you may not get hurt while lifting. When we brought the boxes into the apartment we noticed that one side of the box had staples connecting the wood and the other side had screws. Put the strut side down so that we can easily unscrew the wooden box that protects the top (otherwise you will need a crowbar or a long clawed hammer and you will have to use a lot of muscle power). After the top was unpacked, we put it down. side up and unpacked the base. (Note that the plastic bag containing the gear was broken, so make sure you have all the hardware before throwing the bag away.) We set the base upright next to the top, and then I lifted the top at the end, flipped it over and over and lowered it onto the base while my son held the base. If you have two adults you can just raise the top and lower it onto the base. Assembly was as simple as screwing 4 screws into the bottom of the base and into the top with the included hex wrench. Keep in mind that there is one major downside. Here is the amount of packaging material to throw away (it costs 2 giant boxes). Some of it is recyclable, but most of it is styrofoam, which stinks. If you disassemble a crate you will end up with wood with a lot of exposed sharp brackets so again this might recommend white glove service for some people who don't want to break crates. Overall I was impressed with the care that was taken to package the unit and as I said the table is amazing. Nobody can say that this is not real marble. The drawing is perfect (no pixelation as mentioned by someone else). I absolutely recommend this part! Hope this helps others.
