Amazing Canon S100: digital cameras

I don't usually write reviews, but this camera continues to delight me as I try its many features. I was a little worried about the many issues people were having with LENS ERROR, but I decided to take a chance in February 2013 when the price dropped to $250. I received a 46XX camera by serial number with firmware version 1.01. I've updated to the latest firmware 1.02 with no issues that the firmware is supposed to fix. I noticed that the automatic mode in the new firmware is more responsive and offers better color reproduction and overall image quality. I also prefer using P or M mode to get much sharper images overall than the Auto setting, which tends to favor a high ISO, thus adding noise to the IQ. However, the main reason I bought this camera is that it has more controls than a basic P&S and I can learn more about the creative side of photography. I find this camera can give comparable results to my Nikon 5100 DX on a clear day outdoors. I have more experience with Nikon and have found that images from their cameras are "warmer" than Canon's in most cases, but with the S100 I can "enhance" the image to be "sharper". to look like by increasing the sharpness. , Saturation, Contrast or RGB depending on the situation (it's really just personal taste and the Canon S100 produces very accurate colors out of the box, but you'll have to play around with this to find your best preferred combination - also note that the automatic Im mode, you cannot change a custom color or set E/V). I would give this camera 4.5 stars if allowed as I don't think it's perfect but for its class it deserves a good 5.0 stars (compared to others I've tested that are much more expensive, like the Olympus zx-1, Panasonic LX7, Nikon P770, Canon PowerShot S100, 12.1 megapixel digital camera with 5x optical wide angle zoom and image stabilization (black 0 etc.). I would highly recommend this camera as a constant travel companion as it is the smallest pocket camera capable of capturing incredible images even in low light conditions. Canon seems to have finally tweaked this little gem for better performance, but only time will tell if the dreaded "lens bug" persists.

Pros
  • Full HD 1080p video with stereo sound
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
