Review on ✂️ Experience Razor Sharp Precision with the Feather Artist Club Black SS Straight Razor by Mariah Garrett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not the shave I expected

This rating may not be entirely fair as it is difficult to tell a razor from a shave. Although the razor is well made and looks like it will last for years, it sits in the bin in the back of my bathroom cabinet and will probably never be used again. It is a pity. I've been wet shaving for over a decade and have been using Gillette Fusion for a number of years. However, I liked the idea of mixing my own shaving cream, using an alum block if needed, and finishing with Proraso. I thought the Feather razor would give an excellent shave. And there I was wrong. Though I've watched and followed numerous YouTube videos and over time I've gotten dexterous enough to be able to shave without cuts (except for the area around my Adam's apple - but it's not Feather's fault I have a problem apple ), the shave is just a lot worse on my old Gillette. The blades I bought with the Feather razor are very sharp but caused significantly more irritation and burning compared to my Gillette. I should have guessed that before I bought it when I watched experts online who had burns and scratches after shaving. Not only is Gillette a lot easier and hassle-free, it also makes for a better shave. In my opinion a person should REALLY want the old world shaving experience to go in that direction because Feather (and I wonder if they're just straight blades) offers form over function. I wanted the Feather to be more like my Gillette, but the shave isn't nearly as good. On days when I have more free time, I'll continue to mix up my own shaving cream, use a block of alum (though I probably won't need it at Gillette) and finish Proraso, but Feather will gather dust in the closet as long as I continue to use Gillette use.
