They worked right out of the box. Be strong. Very long, which is good. For me they transfer data but I've heard that some people who bought this don't so it may be a defect, I've only tried a USB-C cable and it was recognized by my computer straight away. It's a strong hold that's good for eliminating any indirect force in one direction (tipping and disconnecting the cable from the phone's magnetic adapter), which is good.
