This is a beautiful and useful magnifying mirror for my bathroom to use for makeup application. (and the kids make funny faces). There are no more batteries. It comes with a USB cable. The red light will illuminate when plugged in and needs to be charged. It holds a charge when left on for 8 hours, which tells me the light should last for weeks. You might not even want the lights on all the time! There are small rubber tabs on the bottom to keep it in place. I mainly use it for eye and face makeup and it magnifies very well. the light is on, there is a white ring around the pupils of my blue eyes! His creepy look! When the mirror is illuminated, it illuminates both sides. The other side is a good quality plain mirror. I find this mirror to be larger and heavier than my other flexible neck magnifying mirror for travel. This mirror is short and is intended to be used when you are at your dressing table, which I do not. I'm 5ft 2in and find this too short to use unless I'm sitting down and when I'm not my neck hurts. Trust me ladies, as we get older we don't. You want to look down through a magnifying mirror, and if you don't sit down, call for botox! The mirror tilts back and forth, but that's not enough for me. I have a magnifying smaller mirror that is larger, not plastic, and sits on a gooseneck with a weighted base. When I ordered this I thought I need a change! Now I better take care of my old magnifying mirror. Or am I just used to my old mirror!
