He gained weight and then fell, and because of his work he often dresses a little better than business and needs a belt. Most belts tend to wear most of the time where the buckle used to be. So if he needs to adjust the buckle, you can see where the mark was. These straps don't have that because they have some sort of ratcheting system and that's absolutely awesome. You can replace the buckles that are sold separately (I bought an extra one for this). He bought a maroon or burgundy belt to match his shoes but they weren't exactly the same color so he had to send it back but other than that he's very happy and threw away all his other belts.
