Plastic case. Ringer Volume Down/Let There Be Metal/ I couldn't find an "easy to use" modular plugin. I had to ask someone to disassemble the case and connect the connector for me. I have arthritis and I can't get to the small screws that hold the case together. There was no written information telling me the connection was inside the case. Not loud enough to be heard from rooms in the house where no call is being made. My usual phone call is about the same loud. For $77 I was expecting a loud bell that could be heard throughout the 6 room house. It should be noted that an earlier similar metal-cased product (used for over 20 years before death) was loud enough to be heard in an 11-room, two-story house. Always scared visitors who didn't know we had it. I am extremely disappointed.
