Great job Panasonic

This is the first review I've chosen. During my 37-year career, I have worked in various areas of photography, including film, advertising catalogs and aerial photography. I am also an avid nature photographer. I've lost count of the number of film and video cameras I've bought over the years. My last camera was a JVC GR-DV3000 and 3.5 years old. It was a very good video camera. Before buying, I read several test reports about the Panasonic DHC HS300. I am an outstanding piece of engineering. It works great right out of the box. I purchased the camera on July 6th and used it extensively during a recent trip to Las Vegas. The results for day and night shots are excellent. Pros: There are so many good features it's hard to know where to start. Switching from video to photo is easy and smooth. The touchscreen is a huge plus when navigating through the various menus. There are plenty of manual options to choose from for advanced users. The 10.6 megapixel photos are better than my Canon D20 8.2 megapixel digital camera. I bought a 16GB Transcend SDHC card in addition to the 120GB internal hard drive. I used both the hard drive and the Vegas card. Transferring files from one to another is very easy. Video and still image files work well with editing software. I am using CyberLink Power Director 7 Ultra. Includes cables to connect to HDTVs and Pro Logic receivers with an HDMI mini connector. Other cables are also available. Thumbnails provide easy access to video clips and photos. Cons: The camera button and touchscreen can be a little tricky for someone with big hands. In this case, a stylus is required to navigate the touchscreen. Do not purchase filter sets that use a 43mm to 37mm adapter ring. Vignetting occurs at the wide-angle setting. Bought a Tiffen 43mm filter. The extra telephoto and wide-angle lenses aren't worth the money. There is no shoulder strap or bag for this camera. So I buy a Lowpro gadget bag. It can be used as a waist bag. Conclusion: A bit pricey, but Panasonic put together a great kit.
