Review on πŸ’» Dell Inspiron 14 7000 2-in-1 - AMD Ryzen 7 - 16GB RAM - 512GB SSD - Sandstorm | Touchscreen Laptop by Jeff Hall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Powerful processor, fast memory, energy efficiency, small body!

I originally bought this from Best Buy. I was very surprised at how strong it was. The processor is an AMD Ryzen 4700u APU. It is able to perform any task like Microsoft Office with ease. Where it really shines is in being able to play games like Halo Master Chief Collection or even GTA V with decent frame rates and relatively good graphics while still consuming 15W of power. No separate graphics card required. Dell shipped a 16GB chip, but there's a second dimmer. I bought the exact same memory that Dell used for NewEgg and now I have 32GB of 3200MHz RAM in dual channel mode. I've got enough for virtualization here, so I've got a few virtual machines running now. I wish the screen was brighter, but as long as you're not sitting outside on a park bench, it's not a big deal. For a screen this size, anything over 1080P would be ridiculous anyway, so you'll probably find it works just fine. The keyboard is not bad. It's not perfect, but few are in this price range. The touchpad is responsive and fits the hand size I need. The touch screen works quite well. I often use this in tent mode when I'm out playing games with the Xbox bluetooth controller. I want them to put in a 1TB drive. I took a 1TB NVMe SSD I had on another computer as a game drive and imaged it with the original image, so now I have 1TB, but 512 isn't enough for me. It's not difficult, but you could probably pay someone to do it if you don't enjoy reading forums on the internet. The battery life isn't incredible, but it lasts most of the day if you're doing basic office work and the like. If you play demanding games with the screen fully cranked and the volume turned up, you should expect a maximum of 5 hours. Despite what Dell says, you can charge it via USB-C. For example, if you have a Thunderbolt dock for a work laptop, you can connect it to it, and most of the functionality is a dot. You are limited by the number of monitors. I didn't like how Dell made the TDP non-adjustable. They probably did this because the cooling capacity it's rated for can't handle more than 15 watts. Some computers allow you to change it through the BIOS, but not this one. Especially in terms of raw performance for the money, this computer has an amazing processor. Combined with fast RAM, it can outperform all Intel chips in the same price range. You get great value for money.
