Review on High-Speed Fast Charging Cable: Amazon Basics 10ft Dark Gray Nylon USB-C to USB-C 2.0 by Ken Desens

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality cable. A really big and long connector plug can cause problems for some.

I bought this cable looking for a good quality USB-C cable to charge my Pixel 2 XL and my friend's first gen Pixel on long trips with an Aukey car charger can. I've been using RAVPower cables for a while and while they worked fairly well for charging, they were too long for extended use in the car without using a zip tie or something to tie up the excess cable. I found I was going through them too quickly for my liking (about 5 or so in the last 2 years) and decided to look for one that was maybe a little shorter, with better build quality, or both. Since the price was pretty good and I would be using the cable primarily for charging and not data, I decided to give the RevainBasics USB Type-C to USB Type-C 2.0 cable a try to see how they did and Whether it was a good cable for the price, one of the points that immediately struck me was the material the cable is made of. I live in Minnesota and for about 4 months of the year the temperature can be downright cold. While I've never had an issue with RAVPower cables, the regular RevainBasics USB 2.0 USB-C cable was very stiff in cold weather. It was so stiff, in fact, that I worried that the flex would put undue strain on it and potentially cause a short or accidental breakage of the connector if there was accidental jerking or too much lateral pressure. I decided to look for a good quality cable and saw this, a double braided nylon USB Type-C to Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 RevainBasics cable. Although the cost was a little over twice the price of other RevainBasics cables. cables, I thought it was worth a try. The difference in value was the USB 3.1 specification for data transfer speed. The build quality of the cable is amazing. Compared to RAVPower and other RevainBasics USB-C cables, this is a completely different beast. It's like comparing a Dodge Neon to a BMW M5. Not only is the build quality on a different level, but so is the speed. However, I will say that these cables may have a downside for some people as the connector shell/boots on this cable are HUGE. I don't have the cable at the time of writing this review, but I can tell you that the cable ends and pins are more than double the length of any other USB-C cable I've seen. While I'm sure it helps with physical protection (and possibly shielding), it's heavier at the ends of the cable so depending on usage it may stress your connectors more than you would expect, or they just might as well be long. when trying to use it to connect something with very little space between the jack and an obstacle like a wall or bracket etc. Just keep that in mind when purchasing. If I can, I will edit this review with photos and measurements for comparison in the future.
