I have several 5 gallon water bottles and this pump works well with them. I haven't noticed any overheating either during use or while charging. I was even able to use this on a 3 gallon water bottle and again everything works great. In our current situation, our old water dispenser finally broke and we ended up buying it as we can't find it locally. To be honest I like this water dispenser compared to my big one. No, it doesn't cool the water, but we have ice for that. However, it fills our water bottles much faster. It slows down and then you know it needs charging. We've used it almost all day since we got it, every day and only had to charge it a few times, it's been about 2 weeks. We just leave it plugged in while charging and unplug it when we use it when it's charging. Fits the bottles snugly and even moving the bottle we had no leaks. Keep this away from the little ones, or at least keep an eye on them. We caught our little ones giving our dogs water when it spilled all over the floor.
