This RJ11 cable replaces a cable that has been in use since around 1986. Thought it was time for an update! The cable I replaced was unshielded so all sorts of noise got into the line. Since using DSL I've noticed a nice speed boost (nothing major, another 100kbps on download) which I can only attribute to a reduction in the noise on my line! Aside from the extra performance of this cable, they also look very cool. The cable's outer insulating material is transparent, so you can see the shield and hopefully spot any breaks in the cable. You know the shield is good because these cables are tough. There is actually a lot of metal in the shield, which really boosts your confidence. The connectors aren't gold-plated, which isn't a disadvantage since the whole business with gold-plated connectors is actually a waste of money. A gold plug will only really benefit you if you're streaming an analogue signal, e.g. B. Sound from a stereo to speakers or a VCR to a TV. Now that we've entered the digital age, the signal is a stream of 0's and 1's, so you either get 0's and 1's while transmitting or you don't. So either the connection works or not. In other words, there's no point in talking about the quality of a digital signal in the same way that you talk about the quality of an analog signal. Don't get confused, you need all kinds of shields on a real cable. The problem is that there is nothing special about having a gold plug, which affects the signal quality. Preventing RF signals from introducing noise into the signal is a slightly different problem. In any case, the connections are made of metal and damn solid. This is useful when you have a complex setup where the wires may need to be pulled through tight spaces (between walls in my case) as you can grab the wire by the connector and thread it through. For any actual cable length I would recommend using a serpentine to make things easier. PROS: + Quality construction, cables feel strong and durable. + Lots of shielding. This is noticeable by the rigidity of the cable + metal connectors (not GOLD). Slightly reduces the price + Transparent insulating material. Looks cool but also allows you to inspect the inside of the cable. CONS: - Very hard. (may make installation difficult, but worth it!)
