Overall the build quality seems good for the price. The telescopic mechanism works quite well. Including Velcro straps for attaching the microphone cable. My main issue with this is a small detail that seems tiny but is actually a major annoyance, especially if you don't have the resources to fix it yourself. Mounting adapters 1/4 and 3/8 and a 5/8 inch barrel that screws onto a 3/8 adapter if you have a 5/8 mount. Like all things where the thread goes into the thread, they never unscrew you and the 5/8 stem gets stuck in the mic mount while the adjusted 3/8 thread comes out of the 5/8 stem I've been using many of them and it's actually quite common that the difference here is that the quality brands (Sennheiser, Rode, etc.) tend to cut notches in the ends of their 5/8 barrels so that when they get stuck, take a flathead screwdriver (and sometimes even a dime) and unscrew them out of the mic mount just enough that I could get the sander on it and cut a few notches without cutting into the mount, it worked for me, but I'm not sure how many of you people with a camera/audio/independent cinema also have access to a metal shop to fix Niver's laziness. If you do this, cut both ends of the barrel before first use.
