I would recommend buying a size or two larger. My son is 4.5 years old and slightly above average height and weight. Now he mostly wears 4T. 4T was too small so I went back to 5T. After a few washes I would now like to order him 6 pieces, although he is quite thin, the waistband is a bit tight. Size aside, these are very good pants.
