My 3 year old looked forward to it for a few days before it arrived. The night ended in tears more than anything, both for him and for us. Others have commented on the appallingly inadequate use of the hat. This is an understatement. It is impossible to reduce the size of the hat, it will not stay. While the pins resemble a size-adjustable ball cap with pins and holes, they are smooth cylinders rather than the T-shaped or knurled ball gauge so they don't snap into holes. The slightest movement, and the adjustment of the cap weakens. Or, even worse, the entire insert comes off. Some kids don't mind, take out the insert and the hat will hang out cute. My son knows how important it is for a bicycle helmet to fit snugly, so from now on all helmets and hats must fit snugly. To be honest this hat ruins the whole experience and not at all what we expect from a Melissa & Doug product.
