In the early days of 'everything' we kept a small supply of N95s but I mostly wore homemade masks made by my daughter. It's just a fabric with no filter insert and metal nose bridge (the fabric has a unique design associated with beer, but which receives many additions). The authorities say it's better than nothing, but I'm interested in this replacement filter product. One thing is clear: the mask and filter must be used together to have any chance of protecting yourself or others. This rather porous fabric is completely useless if you're wearing a mask without a filter. As mentioned in other reviews, it's literally transparent, like a sock; it feels and looks like an "ace bandage" to me. The filters themselves don't look very impressive and it's actually a little tricky to put them back in place. However, once in place, it seems to stay put and "feels" like it works. I mean, there is a definite resistance when breathing in and out, which I don't feel with my sheet masks. Not so much that it's hard to breathe, but enough to know he's doing something to block or slow down certain things going in and out, which supposedly makes sense. The nose bridge is a bonus for people like me who wear glasses and otherwise fog up. In general it is very convenient. The elastic straps and buckles are unassuming. It's difficult to get a proper seal and it's too easy for the switches to move out of position. The chewing gum itself looks particularly thin and cheap. I suspect that with use and washing the elastic will become a weak point that it will stretch completely or break. It is difficult to judge such a product. Ask me again when I'm in ICU and I'll try to judge if this thing failed or I failed or society failed.
