Many have a ring. It's doorbell number one, right? Well I don't think it should be. Amcrest has so many advantages over Ring that it's impossible to list them all here. Initial Installation I would rate a 4 out of 5 skill level required if you have siding in your home. Because this doorbell is longer and has a chamber that needs to be aligned, you'll need to find a way to orient it so that it's not pointing up. I ended up having to make a wedge out of wood with a hole in the middle to let the wires go through. I then had to use drywall anchors in the siding and then screw wood into it. I was then able to screw the doorbell bracket to the wood. After that initial hurdle, the install rate is 3 out of 5. #1 The point is to make sure you have a good Wi-Fi signal nearby. The problem I had was that it connected to the master in the Amcrest Smart Home app and then worked fine. Then I went into the application and looked at the settings and suddenly the connection disappeared. I couldn't get it back even after a few factory resets and a power outage. It goes through, finds the wireless network and connects successfully, but just keeps blinking blue and never connects. That's when I realized something was wrong with my Wi-Fi and it just wasn't getting enough signal. Once that was resolved, it connected and stayed connected. Another thing is that it uses DHCP. DO NOT change IP, he doesn't like it. I wanted a static IP but it couldn't reach it so I had to reserve a DHCP address instead. KEY BENEFITS 1. Amcrest connects flawlessly to any Amcrest DVR and records just like any other doorbell. Built-in micro SD card and record to it instead of cloud. I can receive notifications and view them anytime without cloud subscription.3. Alerts are literally instant, unlike the very slow RING.4 brand. Unlike the ring, you can now mask the motion detection area instead of radius or distance. This will prevent MANY false positives.5. I mentioned that you can receive and view notifications and ALL activity WITHOUT a cloud subscription! After all the kinks I've been through I will DEFINITELY be buying again. I think there's one on the back porch. The RING brand can learn a lot from what Amcrest is doing. My entire security system is being phased out to 100% Amcrest.
