I had to replace the black cartridge twice because the Epson printer didn't recognize the cartridge. The instructions state that you should try to erase the microchip, remove it and re-engage it three times. Tried 10 times and no luck. As the directions showed, there was no way around it. They sent a replacement only to find it recognized other colors but not black.
