I ordered size 36-38. I measured my hips at the height I expected my bottom to be on top and I was 36 inches. (I usually measure around the fullest part of my hips, but they don't cover the area below the hips.) When I received them, the label said they were one size larger. They are quite a snug fit and while I will wear and wear them I don't want them to get any smaller! So I would definitely recommend ordering a size up. The shells are a nice touch, but they make a tinkling sound - if that bothers me I can take them off and just wear them as black pants. The shells come off very easily (and can even be put back on if I want - all I need is a small pair of pliers). Overall they are of very good quality and the stitching seems solid. I love the adjustable side straps! Would you buy one size bigger to have more leeway?
