The benefits of this pre-filter make it a must for me. I've been using it with the SunSun Hw303B 370GPH Pro Canister Filter Kit for about a year. It comes with enough adapters to fit almost anything. It was easy to assemble and install. This pre-filter helps me in three ways. It protects the juvenile fish in my tank, increases the filtering area (although this is probably negligible compared to a canister filter) and keeps solids from getting into the main filter. This keeps the filter clean while allowing bacteria to grow. In my case, I only need to flush the pre-filter every few months (I use aquarium water so I don't kill the good bacteria in the sponge). Almost a year later I opened up my canister filter and it didn't even need to be cleaned. I highly recommend this if you want to protect baby fish, dwarf shrimp, etc. Even if you don't have small critters, I recommend this for its other benefits. Update: While other reviewers have noted elbow cracking, mine lasted over five years before it happened. This part broke today. I have removed and cleaned the filter several times with no problems. I'm happy with 63 months of consistent use and am ordering another one today.
