Fresh out of the box, well put together for the price (I paid less than $20 including shipping in 2021). I would describe the sound profile as "bright". The 'S', 'T' and 'Z' tones are a little hissing and the highs (cymbal crack, other highs) are noticeably louder compared to my preferred headphone profile. I believe this is known as "hissing". I switched to them from Symphonized NRG 3.0 (they recently fell apart after several years of daily use). The NRG headphones are made of "wood" and may be designed for a "softer" sound. Presumably the NRG headphones have a lower treble range and smoother bass, although I'm not a basshead and don't care about muffled sound. However, the smoother sound of the NRG, which I preferred/used to have, might explain my bias towards the brighter sound of these new headphones. I may like the "purity" of the high frequencies, but I can get tired of listening to these headphones more often. Time will tell, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed with the sound profile. EDIT: After a few weeks of heavy use, I would say that my first impression of these headphones was correct. There is definitely a bright offset in these headphones that introduces noise. However, I didn't find it boring and still use them. The on-ear design (IEM style) makes them a bit more difficult to put on than regular earbuds and doesn't give me much benefit when sitting at my desk (work computer). I also can't say I noticed much extra noise isolation, but I don't use them in noisy environments (public transport, coffee shops, etc.) so I wouldn't say I tested them. Overall well made with quality materials for the price but the sound profile won't convince me of a five star rating. UPDATE: Purchased and tested January 2021. It is now June 2021. I use these headphones 5-6 days a week for at least 4 hours a day, regularly 8+ hours while working on my desktop computer. I listen to a mix of popular music from Tool to Thom Yorke, from John Coltrane to classic radio stations. The audio still hisses, so my listening preferences haven't clearly changed, although I can't say I'm particularly tired. But I don't like the sound profile. Also, I'm not clear what the actual benefit of the IEM overhead style is. I find it takes longer to put them on and it annoys me. Also, the cable in these headphones is terribly tangled. They're just fine for the price and if you really need the IEM style for some reason, go for it. But I won't buy these again.
