Review on Kitty City Mega Kit Indoor Cat Furniture with Claw-able Corrugate Cat Scratcher by Jill Lawrence

I just put this together yesterday so I may amend this review in a few months if it holds up. The attached picture shows how I assembled the kit on my glass front. As you can see, I placed the hood/ramp as an extra platform instead of the intended way. I did this to improve durability and also because I didn't like where it was supposed to be in the instructions (interfering with my intended cat tower feature). Also, I covered the top two platforms with a blanket because that's where my cats were. I prefer to sit. The ceiling is designed to prevent cats from tearing through the incredibly thin material the platforms are made of. The loss of three stars is due to: general instability, the thinness of the platform material, and the quality of the velcro. I was very disappointed that other reviews were correct when they found that the velcro did not sew well to the fabric. It's good velcro, but the stiff side of the velcro on the flaps on the platforms is sewn with just one straight stitch on one side (not even down the middle of the strip). The remainder of the Velcro is sewn on with four straight stitches, one at each end and down the side. Unfortunately, as a result, small corners protrude from the Velcro strips that bother cats (especially the hard Velcro strips on the top of the platforms next to the fabric loops. The platform material is so thin that you can see through it). My cat loves this and I'm afraid she'll fall through and she's 8lbs, she's a normal size. Plastic tubing for support. My other cat is larger and weighs 5.5 kg. The larger cat is very reluctant to stay in place when I place it on the cat tower, but it is uncomfortable climbing on its own. The redeeming qualities of this cat tower are that it was easy to assemble and it comes with everything it should have. , the main structure doesn't fall apart and at least one of my cats enjoys using it. Was it what I expected for $50? no But maybe I should have lowered my expectations. This is a mass product made by a company that sells other inferior products. Had this been made by a company that specialized in modular cat towers I would have expected much better quality and price. If this product is made in version 2.0, I would happily pay $80 for it IF the following things are improved: thicker and stronger fabrics, improved stitching, more cube attachment details, and larger base leg washers (or just make some connections with a top hole and a flat bottom). I really like the concept of this cat tower and I want to get more kits from kitty city to make my tower bigger. However, I need to make a few changes to make it safer and more comfortable for my cats. This whole set is good because it is plastic parts for tower frame. The rest is mostly garbage. If you're looking to increase the stability of your own tower (if you bought one or are planning to buy one), I recommend cutting the downtubes off the base legs and not using plastic. The discs they give you to cover the pipes on the legs of the base. I also suggest getting more parts so you can expand the base. The tower base level would make everything more stable if you had a 2x3 or even 3x3 cube base instead of the T configuration offered by the kit.
