Review on ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ Stylish Oakley Holbrook Square Sunglasses with a Matte Finish by Mario Schultz

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Oakley has finally answered our prayers for Holbrook's big brother!

Big-headed brothers, rejoice! After years of asking, Holbrook XL is FINALLY here. Not to be confused with Holbrook LX (premium version of Holbrook), XL finally offers enough protection for people with wider sizes. These glasses are fairly new so the product description doesn't say much but I can tell you the sizes are 59-18-137. I ordered matte black glasses, which are like Oakley's other plastic frame options (including the Sliver XL, the only similar alternative). before this post) is an absolute magnet for fat. The decorative rivets and signature O are no different than regular Holbrooks, but I hope they will withstand even more abuse in the latest generation. In my experience, Holbrooks are fairly durable, aside from decorative rivets - and even if they don't break, scratches or scuffs in the corners don't go unnoticed, especially with contrasting color schemes. My everyday glasses before buying them were a Smith Lowdown XL in matt black. While Holbrook gets a lot of style points in my opinion, they continue to fall behind the Smiths by not having a cushion or nose bridge grip. I don't have a pronounced nose so Holbrooks often slide down my face, especially during strenuous work or exercise. The Smiths have a hydrophobic pad to keep the goggles in place, while the Holbrook only has a plastic frame. The Holbrook XL doesn't fit as snugly to the face as the Smiths, which I think is a positive. Rapid temperature changes don't cause fogging like the Smith Lowdown XL do, simply because they have a little more air to breathe. The fit behind the temples and ears is excellent. Be warned, although the lens description for my pair reads 'Warm Grey', they definitely tend towards the pink finish more than many of the Oakleys I've had in the past. although it can be a perception due to the increased lens surface area you get. The build quality is solid, the hinges don't give way. Thank you Oakley for realizing the need for this line - with such an iconic and classic look I am really looking forward to expanding my Holbrook XL collection!
