UPDATE 6-16 -19 I am increasing my rating to 5 stars because over time I have come to appreciate and love this duvet. I also tried a different weighted blanket and found I like it better. The cotton cover is much better than other fabrics I've tried. (on the original plus the refurbished one the manufacturer sent me. At this point I would give this a 5 star rating, I still find it a bit pricey for what it is but at $50 it is better quality than others I've tried, this is the best I've tried and I'll consider buying a slightly larger one (for sleeping) and I'd also like a smaller one to use as a throw in living room can have. I love that it's offered in lighter weight and lighter colors. Many of these are dark gray and don't really go with our bedding. I'm also not a fan of bedspreads and find using these weighted blankets without them is the most fun Works best High quality cotton fabric makes it very comfortable The other fabric I tried was so thin it was a bit scratchy and I really felt the glass beads were goading me, we The professional counteracts the positive effect of weighted fabric. Ceiling. I am currently very happy with this weighted blanket and w yes, the manufacturer has responded to my odor issues and such. I highly recommend this blanket. UPDATE 5/28/19 The blanket manufacturer contacted me after seeing my comments and said they improved it and sent me a new one. In fact there are fewer pockets in this one. They also got rid of the bad smell and it just smells new. Now it comes in a nice zipped case, just like a blanket in a retail store. Unfortunately, the pockets are still filled unevenly, some pockets are missing completely, others I feel very strong. The label still doesn't reflect the fiberfill inside. He also offers to wash his hands. but I suspect it's mainly to protect my washing machine in case the stitching comes loose. Overall the quality has improved, basically that toxic smell has been eliminated! FIRST CHECK I wanted to get a weighted blanket to see if it would help with my anxiety. I read about them and waited because they are so expensive. I ended up buying the baby because it's just for me and I wanted to use it on the couch or in bed with me. The one I received weighed 7 pounds. So far I like its weight. I didn't like putting it on in bed. For some reason I felt a little claustrophobic which is really not good for anxiety. I felt like I wanted my legs free so I put it on my torso and I liked it better. I've been using it for a few nights and I think it's something you snuggle in or wrap yourself in, something you just cover yourself with. To be honest, I found it too tight to cover completely like a blanket, but once I wrapped it around my shoulders, so to speak, I loved it. How you use it or what you like can be an individual thing for me. I also liked to have it teased a little behind my back. The reason I only gave it 2 stars is because it had a chemical smell from the packaging in the first place. I have a chemical sensitivity so I can smell things that don't bother others, but when I ordered 100% cotton and glass beads I wasn't expecting any outgassing like you can get with foam products. I was going to wash it to get rid of the smell but the label says MADE IN CHINA and don't put it in the washer or dryer, not that I'm going to dry clean it (nasty chemicals), I can't either. The listing clearly says you can dry clean it, but the label says you can't. This suggests hand wash and, I think, hang dry. I don't know about you, but who hand washes a blanket? Also, to get something, you want to be able to rinse it, wring out the water and rinse again. I was a little annoyed that something that claims to be just cotton and glass beads can't be machine washed on a delicate or delicate cycle! I might not want to machine wash the large ones, but this one is smaller. Anyway, to get rid of the stinky chemical smell I decided to put it in my steam dryer because if it really was just jeans and glass beads, that shouldn't be a problem. I set it to a lower temperature and watched it carefully. The steam dryer helped get rid of the smell. The rest is gone after 24 hours. After drying, I felt the comforter and noticed that there was some padding or batting in the pockets and some of them might be slightly wrinkled. It's fine, but the stuffing or padding is rarely cotton, so it's obvious that there is some sort of polyester stuffing or batting in the beaded blanket. The label says 100% cotton and no lead glass beads, but doesn't mention any batting or filling. However, it is clear that there is something! The other thing I expected from a $50 weighted blanket is the even distribution of the beads. First, it says they are divided into small sections and each section is bigger than my hand! I don't consider this a small section. If you hold the quilt up to the light you can see the beads which may or may not be glass (I have some doubts as the label also says it's cotton and obviously that's not entirely true). In any case, you can see the beads filling the bottom of each square. Some squares had more infill than others, and one pair had almost no infill at all. Overall I think the blanket is functional, I'm just unhappy that for $50 I'm not sure what exactly the blanket is made of. I think that's what I get for the "Made in China" item. Also with me the pockets are NOT evenly filled as advertised and the pockets are not small either. The best thing about it for me is the beautiful pattern and the outer fabric feels like cotton. I don't want to cover it up, and even with the cover on, it has to be washed in the washing machine at some point. Hope it doesn't fall apart completely. I would like to know what exactly is in the squares. I'm almost curious to cut it open and then sew it up, but for now I'll just leave it alone. In any case, I'd rate it a little higher if they sold it for around $25 and fully showed what's in the bags. But as it is, while I love the concept of a weighted cotton blanket filled only with glass beads, I'm just not sure I bought it. Thank you for reading my review, Becky Brooks.
