Review on 🔌 C2G HDMI Extender + USB Over Cat 5 Short Range Kit - 1080p Support - Cables to Go 29637: Enhance Your HDMI and USB Connectivity by Julio Rattanajatuphorn

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Very inconsistent performance and poor connectivity over 75 to 100 feet of twisted pair.

As this was not an HDBase-T transmitter I had very low expectations from the start and I do not promise that it will transmit EDID through it even if it has enough internal power for pin 5B to power the transmitter. Source signal compared to an active HDMI cable. But for 80€ it's worth a try. This worked for the most part when the original HDMI input cable was very short, 5-6 feet max, and it had to be a passive cable. I've tried many devices from GoPros to cell phones, various laptops, PS3s, Blu-ray players, etc. It really was hit or miss. When I tried to use cat6 or cat6a with more than 100v the light at the receiver end appeared dim and my tv said "no signal". If an ethernet cable (cat5, cat5e, cat6, cat6a, to cat7) only works for me 90% of the time as long as it's less than 50 feet long. Since the distance was over 100 feet, forget it. Luckily I have spare sets of Kramer TP-580t/r pairs, all the same cables (HDMI and twisted pair) and they work great. In any case, this product is not reliable if you have long enough distances. At 50 feet or less it's fine to route the camera signal to a switcher or AV mixer, but I would check that your source is sending a reliable signal. So if you're using USB-C to HDMI adapters, make sure they're active, or use a 5V power injector to make sure the signal is strong before heading to the end of the C2G -Transmitters go. You'd think that this self-powered model would allow the signal to carry the full 100 meters of twisted pair/Ethernet cable, but that's not the case. I have nothing against other products from C2G (now owned by Legrand who make very good commercial products) but not this product. Is it cheaper than Kramer, Aurora, Creation, Extron? Of course! But if it doesn't work reliably, then it's definitely not worth it. I would give it 3 stars if the manual lists better specs so I know what I'm working with and can provide my own things I can do to improve performance. This is probably no better than using a very long active HDMI cable unless you plan to use it as a live connection cable.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Upgradable

Very spotty performance, and poor linking beyond 75 to 100 feet of twisted pair cable.
