I recently purchased a PT 270 AIU to install an outdoor stereo around our pool. I was interested in having many formats to play music in, so this receiver was attractive. I usually play music from an iPod, MP3 or USB but my wife insisted it have FM as she likes to listen to NPR or talk on the radio while reading her Kindle. After scouring pawn shops for old, low-budget receivers, I thought this unit had all the options we wanted at a great price, and it really does. written down. Such as; mysteriously the power button has been left on the remote, the input actually switches to DVD every time you turn it on and the volume goes low too (benefit). The dancing lights, while pleasant, give the impression that this is an equalizer, but it isn't. Our fan is quiet and I hope it stays that way, but I keep it in a sun-drenched plastic outdoor closet and you can't hear it. The manual is completely devoid of instructions, but who reads them anyway. The FM antenna should not be used and I suspect that is why many people say the receiver is not working. Just grab an extra speaker wire and plug it in and you've got a better one than the one that came with the unit. Let me remove some of the bad comments I read in the review. At first everything works for me. Ipod, mp3, usb, fm, am, volume, treble, bass, mic, remote, AM antenna, all switches etc. I don't have a low hum or hum like many claim. I suspect they either have a bad speaker connection or some other electrical issue like a bad ground. The iPod dock and the built-in retractable audio cable for the MP3 player are working properly. Make sure your player's volume is turned up as this will affect the volume! However, the receiver does not "find" your devices automatically when they are connected, you need to use the input switch and change it to an iPod/USB device. This is normal for the receiver (it is not a plug and play computer). The receiver is used "by default" as a home theater and DVD is set as the "default" input every time it is turned on. Scanning for stations works on the receiver, as does preset stations (and they keep their memory) but you'll have to figure out how to use them as there are no actual instructions in the manual. The search function found literally every station my car could handle, no hiss, the radio works well and has a good signal. The volume with 4 dual external speakers is quite high for our deck. Overall I'm surprisingly happy with the purchase and as long as it works I highly recommend/buy this product.
