I bought these cages to refresh an outdated ceiling fan and to replace the garish, flower-shaped frosted glass shades that came with the fan. First of all, note that the diameter of the base is not suitable for this purpose. This way I was able to install McGuyver to mount my ceiling fan using heavy duty plastic zip ties. Pretty hard to explain, but mostly by tying the cages to the screws that usually hold the lampshades in place. All of this is to say that if you don't have hands, they aren't fit to upgrade a ceiling fan. BUT they will certainly look cute when used as intended, as part of a hanging socket.
